Welcome to the website of Country Rail Infrastructure Authority (CRIA).

CRIA is a NSW Government agency and owns the non-metropolitan rail networks in New South Wales, comprising:

  • the Country Regional Network (CRN), owned by CRIA and managed by our contracted rail infrastructure manager, John Holland Rail (JHR)*; and
  • the Leased Network (NSW Interstate and Hunter Valley Networks), owned by CRIA and leased to and managed by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).

CRIA’s principal objective is to provide on the CRN safe and reliable passenger and freight services in an efficient, effective and financially responsible manner.

In total, CRIA’s country regional network covers 2,386 route kilometres of operational passenger and freight rail lines and 3,128 route kilometres of non-operational lines.  See Location/Operational Map for coverage of services.

* Operational control of the CRN transferred from ARTC to JHR at 00:01 hours Sunday 15 January 2012.
